Whole Foods, if you weren't aware, is a grocery store. Their products are on average a bit more expensive than the typical grocery store - but they seem to be in the niche market of selling healthy food rather than cheap food. I was pleasantly surprised to find this blog post on their website (it's a few years old, but hey it's still helpful) that not only accurately and completely explains how sugar is often not vegan, but also explains how to get vegan sugar. It even goes on into explaining how their vegan sugar is also fair trade and part of the proceeds are donated to encourage non-vegan customers to buy the sugar. Here's a link to the blog if anyone wants to check it out, and of course I'd love to hear what you thought of it: blog.wholefoodsmarket.com/2008/09/vegan-sugar/
