J (refers to herself as Vegan Activist) is an online blogger that raised some really interesting questions about where the art materials we use come from and how friendly they are to other animals and to the environment. She discusses recycled materials which seemed like a no brainer to me, but then went into topics I would never have thought of including paint potentially being tested on non-human animals to meet safety standards. It's an interesting read and once again a reminder how entrenched animal use is in our society and how we'll constantly be called to change our lifestyles. Hi, I hope people are reading this post still because it is important for us to consider all our alternatives to conventional art supplies, cosmetics, food, etc. When we become more environmentally conscience everything benefits. There is a company that is doing just that. They are a Canadian company that makes their own watercolor paint and now they are selling art supplies. Everything they offer is vegan and cruelty-free. I like their paint and their paper. Check them out. Colors of Nature @ www.colorsofnature.com
