Surprise surprise most birth control and contraceptives aren't vegan. Animals are used as test subjects for some (where they are typically euthanized after testing is completed), milk meant for baby cows shows up inside most commercial condoms, and horse urine is a commonly used hormone in birth control as just a few examples. I thought I'd put together a list of easy to read articles that explain why this is so and methods to prevent having children if you're into being regularly sexually active.

This website is a good overview of how animal use is blended into birth control and contraceptives. I'll just mention that I disagree with her summary point. I think it is hypocrisy (if you're vegan) to use products that use animal by products and test on animals even when it's in contraceptives, unless you actually have a logical reason other than 'it's too hard'. That's just sacrificing animals and shutting your brain off. That is the opposite of what veganism is. Plus if you check out the websites below you'd be amazed at how easy being a sexual vegan is because of the internet!

This article from the Huffington Post takes the earlier blog post a step further and looks into exactly how environmental every type of contraceptive is, and then links to a few sites where you can buy the vegan version.
