Vega is a whole food meal replacer and not a protein powder.
This is an important distinction.
Protein powders have been around for years and are EXTREMELY unhealthy for 2 reasons:
1. We already eat WAY WAY too much protein. the maximum amount of protein that a human being should eat (if they are training for a decathlon or have been in a car accident) is ONE gram of protein per kilo of body weight (1 kilo is 2.2 pounds)
Example: if you weigh 120 lbs (approx 55 kilos) the MAXIMUM amount of protein that you should eat is 55grams... (and that is if you are training or convalescent and rebuilding tissue!!!) realistically, you only need about half that.
Many protein bars have 30 grams of protein in ONE BAR!!!
2. Protein on its own does not exist in nature (just like vitamin pills do not exist in nature either btw). In nature, protein is surrounded by water, fibre, minerals, and vitamins. And that is how you should consume protein, as part of a whole food.
People who train responsibly and who know how to take care of their body, never consume "protein" products, but rather whole meal replacers. There are many whole meal replacers that are not vegan.
Vega is the only all vegan "whole meal replacer". It does have protein but MORE IMPORTANTLY it also has ALL the nutrients that your body needs in a day. Therefore, you can have a Vega shake any day during which you feel that you did not eat properly.
Also, Vega is 100% raw and contains no filler...it is all food.
As for where to buy it...I recommend buying all your vegan products at Panacea 588 Bloor Street West, Toronto (on the North side of Bloor, across from Honest Ed's)
It is less than half a block from the Markham subway exit.
The prices are very cheap because the owner does not do any price-gouging (ALL health food stores, whole foods, the big carrot and EVERY grocery store does price-gouging: they have certain items on sale, to get you in, and then they add a few cents on EVERY OTHER item, so that you end up paying more!!!)
Not only is Panacea vegan owned and operated but the owner quit his job as an engineer and put all his savings in the store...he does not get a salary and if he makes a profit, he uses it to buy MORE vegan products for the store.
There are only 2 all-vegan grocery stores in THE ENTIRE WORLD (one in Portland and one here)...as vegans we need to realize how lucky we are to have an all-vegan grocery store here (no need to read labels, everything can go in your basket, because everything in the store is vegan!!!)
